Smithereens Knitwear is a creative project founded in 2020 by textile artist Sanjana Khoobarry. Through the exploration of knitwear design and textile development, Smithereens aims to create work informed by dress history and traditional crafts and techniques. Sanjana has a background in Fine Art and has completed a Masters in Dress and Textile History and this context allows the brand to explore historical techniques and pull from a diverse range of references and cultural practises.
With sustainability at the core of the brand’s practise, we hope to find new ways for people to engage with clothing, separate from the pervasive culture of fast fashion and over-consumption. Smithereens aims to empower people to create and transform their own garments and pre-existing wardrobe as well as promoting ways to build community and encourage the sharing of knowledge in order to engage in a love of fashion, artistry and craftsmanship.
Smithereens has been featured in British Vogue and has participated in events at Goodwood Festival and the Tate Britain.
